Dvla Launches New Online Service To Change Address On Your Vehicle Log Book V5c

It is unclear how many drivers have ever been fined the maximum £1,000 for falling foul of the rules, but it’s not worth running the risk for something easy to keep up-to-date. If you are ever pulled over and the address on your licence incorrect, you could run into trouble – although, seeing as you can be contacted via your parents, it would be unlikely. The DVLA knows this and wants to encourage people to update whenever they can, no matter how long it has been. As reassuring as it can be to know you’re not alone, the news shouldn’t stop you from taking action. Research from insurer Direct Line shows that millions of motorists have failed to update their address with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. “Keeping DVLA informed ensures that drivers can be notified promptly with important information affecting them such as reminders when their licence is due for renewal.
If you’ve changed your name recently, you can update it in your log book at the same time as your address. Simply fill in section 3 or 6 with your new name in full—do not give initials or joint names. You will also need to provide a separate note to inform the DVLA that you’ve changed your name, along with proof that your name has changed, e.g., a deed poll.
If you wish to report a problem with a road or street you can do so online in this section. This feedback form is for issues with the nidirect website only. Because not changing your address with the DVLA is a criminal offence, you may also be cautioned or charged.
If your licence has expired or is within two months of expiring you cannot apply to change your address. You can change the address on your provisional or full driving licence via the online form on the gov.uk website. Provided you enclose the correct documents in your application you should receive your new driving licence within approximately three weeks. If the DVLA have to carry out health or other personal detail checks this may prolong the name change process for your driving licence.
This may take longer if your health or personal details have to be checked. Allow at least four weeks for your driving licence to arrive before contacting DVA. Renew a driving licence online – for customers who already hold a NI driving licence they can apply online to renew their car and motorcycle licence online. Updating a driving licence with a change of address is just one of a host of regulatory, compliance and operational issues that company car drivers need to be aware of. Recent research revealed 1.5million motorists in the UK have incorrect information on their driving licence. Moving driving licence change of address is itself a stressful experience but you need to add to the “To-Do List” the need to change the address on your licence & the address DVLA have for vehicles registered to you.
We will send off your application electronically, and you should have your new licence within 3 weeks. We’ll also take your old driving licence and send it back to the DVLA for you. It will cost you a total of £21.50 to renew your driving licence.
Think again—you’ll have to do the same with your vehicle log book, or risk a fine. Fortunately, as with updating your address on your driving licence, it’s usually free to change address on your log book. If the DVLA has the wrong address, you won’t receive your vehicle tax reminder letter and you won’t get any vehicle tax refunds.
